1st Gr Fall Leaves

Students learned how artists and scientists are very similar. We learned why leaves change color in the fall. We used fall leaves from nature and observed, studied, and identified the colors in our leaves. Then we created a replica of our fall leaf.

5th Gr Mosaics

Students learned about the history of mosaics which date back thousands of years. They looked at examples of ancient mosaics and then using paper, created a mosaic with their own subject matter.

Kindergarten Trains Collage

Kindergarten students read the story: I Love                                      Trains by Philomen Sturges and using rectangles,
circles, and other shapes, made train collages.
Students practice drawing the shapes first before cutting.
For example, I show students how to draw a circle and then
                                          cut it out.

3rd Gr Romare Bearden Collage

Students looked at collages created by Romare Bearden and learned about his life and art. Bearden made many people in his collages. We tried to think about how Bearden worked as an artist and saw pictures of his studio. Students learned techniques for creating the body parts and clothes.

Abstract Watercolor Painting

Students experimented with watercolor painting, making abstract shapes, designs, and brushstrokes. They were not worried about what their painting would become. They experienced mixing colors on their page.
